Schools
Witnessing a child go through the pain of losing a parent can often feel overwhelming for staff in schools. Even with kindness and good intentions staff can feel uncertain about what bereaved children specifically need in terms of support.
Anxiety is often at a high for all involved with the child.
Staff in schools play a crucial role in supporting children and their families after the death of a parent. At Next Chapter, I can help you to feel skilled and confident in working with bereaved children and their parents.
Consultation: I offer consultation to schools to help them think about the specific needs of bereaved children and their families. It is not unusual for a child who has experienced significant loss to feel some separation anxiety, which can in some circumstances lead to school refusal. Consultation often focuses on how to support schools in creating a feeling of psychological safety for the child. I am always very happy to include parents in these consultations where possible.
Direct therapeutic work: I offer 1:1 therapeutic sessions to children and can come into schools to do this work. I can also offer child / parent sessions if this is something a family would prefer.
CPD workshops: I offer bespoke CPD workshops and training for staff who are supporting parentally bereaved children. I have a wealth of experience in offering trauma informed training to schools. Workshops can range from 1 hour to a whole day training. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
